Division III World Series

The Division III College World Series finished up yesterday with the Trinity (Conn.) Bantams picking up the Bronze and Walnut as Division III’s best team.
The Bantams entered championship Tuesday needing one win to take home the trophy and complete an incredible undefeated season. They fell in game one to Johns Hopkins 4-3 and then won game two 5-4 with a walk-off walk.
They finished 45-1 on the season. As nice as it would have been to finish the season undefeated, it is still a pretty decent accomplishment to win 45 games, lose only once, while also taking home the National Title.
Last year’s defending champion, the Kean University Cougars, did not win one game in the championship round as they were eliminated in two games.
The number one team in the nation, Chapman, went deep into the tournament but was eliminated by UW-Whitewater.
The tournament was highlighted by a first-year head coach, former major leaguer Scott Brosius, taking his alma-mater Linfield deep into the championship round.
With the Division III season coming to a close, it’s now time to keep an eye on which players will go in this year Amateur Draft for Major League Baseball. There are quite a few intriguing arms and bats that could go deep in the draft. Don’t forget, Brosius was a Division III player and he had an All-Star career with the New York Yankees.
Congratulations to the Bantams for winning the 2008 Division III Baseball National Championship.
