Could Guillen Be Gone?
Loudmouth Ozzie Guillen has done it again. This time he has not only called out every member of his 25-man roster but he has also called out his boss.
Earlier this week Guillen went on a tirade after the White Sox lost to the Rays in the final game of their series on Sunday during his post-game interviews.
Guillen said he will no longer protect anyone on his team. If he feels someone needs to be benched or moved to Triple-A, or maybe even traded he will not hesitate to let GM Kenny Williams know about it.
Guillen also decided to go on an say that Williams needs to make a move soon, by Tuesday. Well, today is Tuesday and nothing has happened yet. Could it be Guillen’s job that Williams makes a move on? We will find out today.
The White Sox are in first place in the AL Central but Guillen isn’t happy with the team’s record (30-26) and they way they played versus the Rays last weekend. They sit at .5 games ahead of the Minnesota Twins.
Guillen had better be careful about what he wishes for. Williams might fire Guillen despite the team being in first place. Guillen said there needs to be a shake-up with the team. Well, that would be an enormous one.
Four of the biggest bats on the White Sox are struggling this season and Guillen also said that hitting coach Greg Walker might be the odd man out.
Orlando Cabrera, Jim Thome, Paul Konerko and Nick Swisher are all hitting under .250 for the season. Swisher is hovering around .200 (.201) as well as Konerko (.205).
Maybe there does need to be a shake-up, but should they give up on their veterans who have proven themselves throughout their careers? That is a tough move to make.
For a manager to go on a tirade with his team in first place, granted by only a .5 game, maybe the manager should sit down with the team’s brass and work out whatever problems he is having.
