NL Player of the Week

Chase Utley of the Phillies was named NL Player of the Week on Monday for the week ending June 1st.
To say that Utley is in the midst of a hot streak right now is an understatement.
His stats for the week of May 25-June 1 are astronomical. If there was an MVP Award for the first two months of the season, he would win it.
He hit 5 home runs in the span of one week and his 20 heading into Monday’s game was the most by a second baseman in Major League history in fewer than 60 games played.
He also posted 14 RBIs and 25 total bases. He was second in the NL with a 1.087 slugging percentage.
Utley has helped the Phillies take over first place from the Florida Marlins in the NL East as he had homered in his previous four games coming into Monday. His home run total and RBI total lead the league. Utley finished the 2007 season with a total of 22 home runs because he missed a month of time due to a broken hand.
This is the second time this season that Utley has been named the National League Player of the Week for the 2008 season.
He is on his way to being the third Phillie named as the league’s Most Valuable Player, one would think, and he will hopefully be playing in his third All-Star game come July.
