Yankees Pitching Staff Takes Another Hit

Published by Jim Vassallo at 9:22 pm under General Baseball, MLB Edit This

The New York Yankees announced on Wednesday that starter Joba Chamberlain has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Chamberlain left the game versus Texas Monday night with shoulder stiffness and has since been diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinitis.

He will give the arm a rest for at least a week before he begins and throwing regimen.

Chamberlain was examined by Dr. James Andrews in Alabama; a noted orthopedic surgeon. It was reported that Andrews told the Yankees that the injury should not be longterm.

Chamberlain has a 4-3 record with a 2.63 ERA in 32 games, 12 of them starts.

The Yankees are also missing starter Chien-Ming Wang since June. He is not expected back until late September of even October, provided the Yankees make the playoffs.

Ian Kennedy will be recalled from the minors to start on Friday against the Angels and Dan Giese will move to the rotation from the bullpen to start on Saturday; also against the Angels.

Giese has made two starts this season. His overall numbers are impressive. He has a 2.51 ERA in 13 games with a 1-3 record.

Kennedy is 0-3 with a 7.41 ERA in nine games; eight of them starts.
