Two Cycles in One Day

Published by Jim Vassallo at 7:32 pm under General Baseball, MLB Edit This

Two players hit for the cycle in one day yesterday; of all days, Labor Day.

Stephen Drew of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Adrian Beltre of the Seattle Mariners became the first two players to hit for the cycle on the same day since 1920.

Drew did it against the St. Louis Cardinals and Beltre accomplished the feat against the Texas Rangers.

The last time the feat was accomplished was on September 17, 1920. It was done by Bobby Veach of Detroit and George Burns of the New York Giants.

Beltre is only the fourth player ever to hit for the cycle for the Mariners. The last to hit for the cycle was John Olerud. He did it on June 16, 2001 against the San Diego Padres.

Drew’s cycle was the first in the history of Chase Field.

Drew is only the third players in the Diamondbacks 11-year history to hit for the cycle. It was previously done by Greg Colbrunn on September 18, 2002 at San Diego and before him it was Luis Gonzalez on July 5, 2000 at Houston.
