K-Rod Gets the Record

Published by Jim Vassallo at 8:07 pm under Games, General Baseball, MLB Edit This

Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez now has the record for most saves in a season in the Major Leagues.

With his 58th save of 2008 on Saturday night, K-Rod became the all-time saves leader for saves in a season, passing Bobby Thigpen’s record of 57. That record was set in 1990 with the Chicago White Sox.

Rodriguez had a shaky outing on Saturday but was able to nail the door shut against the Seattle Mariners in a 5-2 win.

Rodriguez did his patented celebration after the save, which he has now done 58 times this season, and droppd to his knees on the mound.

Rodriguez has been the rock at the back-end of the Angels bullpen all season long; helping them claim the American League West title for the fourth time in five seasons earlier this week.

Rodriguez was a young member of the 2002 World Series championship team and is looking for his second ring of his bright career. With the save Rodriguez now has 204 in 236 chancesĀ for his career.
