Rays Can’t Clinch; Dodgers Do
The Tampa Bay Rays had a chance to clinch a spot in the American League Championship Series on Sunday but couldn’t get the job done.
After a lengthy rain delay in Chicago in Sunday the White Sox were able to fend off elimination for one more day with a 5-3 win over the Rays.
John Danks, who won the AL central tiebreaker last week, kept the ChiSox alive in the 2008 playoffs.
Danks allowed three runs over 6.2 innings, giving his team the chance to play one more day in the ALDS.
On the other side of Chicago the Cubs returned home on Sunday after being swept out of the playoffs in the first round for the second straight season.
They lost 3-1 to the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Saturday night. In 2007 they were swept in the NLDS by the Diamondbacks.
So the Cubs were the first team eliminated from the 2008 playoffs and the ChiSox live to see another day.
