Rays Take Game 2

Published by Jim Vassallo at 5:51 pm under Games, General Baseball, MLB, Playoffs Edit This

The Tampa Bay Rays evened their best of seven ALCS with the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night when they picked up a much needed 9-8 win in 11 innings at Tropicana Field.

A record 7 homeruns were hit between the two teams but the game winning run was knocked in via a B.J. Upton sacrifice fly in the 11th.

The series is now tied at one game apiece and the scene shifts to Boston for the middle three games.

Because the series is tied the if necessary tag is removed from the game 5 docket.

The series resumes Monday afternoon in Boston when Matt Garza faces Jon Lester.

Lester has been dominant in his two playoff starts in 2008. He is 1-0 in two starts and has yet to allow a run in 14 innings pitched. At home in 2008 Lester is 11-1 with a 2.49 ERA in 17 starts and was 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA in three starts.

This is uncharted territory for the Rays, as they won their first ever ALCS playoff game Saturday night, and will look to continue their magical 2008 run in Boston.
