Holliday to St. Louis?
Rumors have begun to swirl around the world of baseball that Colorado Rockies slugger Matt Holliday might be on his way to St. Louis to join the Cardinals.
Rumors also arose during the General Managers meetings in California that the Phillies were back into the mix to acquire Holliday, whom they inquired about at the July 31st trade deadline, but claim the asking price is too high.
The Phillies would have to part with either Jayson Werth or Shane Victorino plus a couple of prospects that would include Carlos Carrasco, Lou Marson or Greg Golson.
Back to St. Louis. Reading the comments section of MLB.com, a lot of fans are upset that their team is looking into trading for a hitter instead of a pitcher. The Cardinals offense has a ton of talent and the Cardinals do need pitching.
If the deal were to go down, the Cardinals would more than likely have to part with outfielder Ryan Ludwick.
Holliday is a free agent after the 2009 season and his agent is Scott Boras, who almost never let’s his clients sign a new contract without testing the free agent market, which is what Holliday will most likely do.
So any trade for the power hitting outfielder will be for a player for rent for one season.
