Big Day in Baseball

Boy oh boy did a lot happen on the first day of free agency in Major League Baseball.

First things first, the New York Yankees offered free agent left handed pitcher C.C. Sabathia a large contract.

The deal is reported to be for six years and roughly $140 million and would be a record breaking contract if he signs on the dotted line.

This offer is above and beyond what any other team would be able to offer the dominant left handed starter who has played in Cleveland and Milwaukee.

In other news of the day the Dodgers have pulled their initial contract offer to free agent outfielder Manny Ramirez but said that talks would continue.

The original offer was for two years for $45 million and an option for a third year for $15 million.

GM Ned Colletti said that he still wants to talk with Ramirez’s agent Scott Boras.

The other big story of the day belonged to the Atlanta Braves. GM Frank Wren says that his team is almost 100 percent out of the running for Padres right handed starting pitcher Jake Peavy.

The two teams could not come to an agreement regarding a trade for Peavy after six weeks worth of discussions and Wren decided to search for starting pitching in other ventures.
